Local fishermen catch lobster in the spring, crab all summer long and herring, mackerel and caplin. The Harbour is surrounded by a huge breakwater to protect itself against waves during storms. We took photos of the small craft harbour, wooden lobster traps, and of the fishing boats anchored in the Harbour.

The fishing village, which is one of the busiest fishing centres in the area, has about 300 residents that mostly work in the lobster and crab fishing industry. On the point there is also The Chowder House Restaurant and not far away there are a few cottages available for rental. New Haven Road brings us on the right to the Lighthouse Road that leads to Neil’s Harbour Lighthouse, now transformed into an ice cream parlour, cash only. It is a small fishing village in the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, located between the towns of Ingonish and Dingwall, just north east of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. On Tuesday August 20th, 2019, my wife and I continued north east off the Cabot Trail by taking New Haven Road up to Neil’s Harbour which was originally named after a Mr.
